Bringing the fun back to financial analysis
We believe financial analysis should be about deep thought and creativity, not trawling documents.
Financial analysts today have swathes of data at their fingertips. But this volume comes at a price: information overload.
How do you find the signal amidst the noise, without spending your day poring over filings and earnings calls transcripts? How do you make sure you don't miss that crucial insight when you can't read everything for every company?
This is the challenge we've set out to solve at Primer. We're combining the latest developments in AI with a deep understanding of the financial research process to build your analysis co-pilot.
Built by analysts for analysts
We are a compact yet agile group of finance experts and software developers, brought together by a shared commitment to delivering authentic value with AI. As technology enthusiasts, we identified the substantial potential of developing frontier models. Conversely, as finance professionals, we found the present AI implementations in financial studies subpar. We identified the requirement for a more advanced platform: a research assistant that could proactively operate in parallel with us, conducting in-depth contextual analysis to generate immediate insights, instead of merely producing superficial overviews. We assembled in 2023 to initiate Primer and transform this concept into reality.

The journey (literally) started with a cross-USA bike ride, on a year-out from financial markets and with grand ambitions of building a genuinely useful tool for analysts who never feel they have quite enough time to do the deep work they really want to.
After some frankly very weak early efforts and plenty of challenging months - of course bolstered by significant advancements in the field - I am proud to say we now have a product that has begun to approach the lofty goals we originally envisioned.
Alongside co-founding Primer, I remain an active equity investor as managing partner at a long/short equity boutique. It's here that I see first hand how impactful the product already is for analyst teams, enhancing their ability to focus on creative and strategic thinking rather than routine tasks.
Hopefully my experience in the shoes of our clients, alongside the ex-analyst veterans we have in the team, give us both the tools and motivation to use AI to truly empower analysts in their work.

I love building things that excite people. I've got a background that stretches across different pockets of finance and tech, from big banks, to hedge funds, to venture capital.
After studying Maths & Computer Science at Oxford (I'm a tech geek at heart!), I joined Morgan Stanley, working on pricing and analysis systems for one of their trading desks. I later spent several years at a $2bn systematic macro fund, leading the development of their trading and risk systems and working closely with researchers to implement automated strategies.
Next up, I joined the exciting world of venture capital, trading hands-on coding for investing in tech start-ups and working closely with founders as they built their business. I loved the energy of entrepreneurs and the interesting challenges that come with scaling companies. After six years (and lots of ups and downs!), I caught the entrepreneurial bug myself and joined forces with Seb to launch Primer.
I believe we are just at the beginning of AI in finance and with Primer we have a huge opportunity to be the platform that truly empowers analysts in their research. I work closely with our customers to scope and build a product that delivers on this goal.
